Controversial Taliban Claim: Weapons and Drone Production Facilities Established in Afghanistan.

Taliban officials have claimed that the group has set up weapons and drone manufacturing facilities in Afghanistan and has also reactivated parts of its air-defence system.

Ahmadullah Muttaqi, the Taliban’s Head of Information and Culture in Herat, said in a published report that the Taliban Ministry of Defence has refurbished certain long-range defensive equipment and deployed it in various locations.
According to him, some of this equipment was also used during recent tensions and clashes with Pakistan.

The report states that the Taliban Ministry of Defence has established several technical and logistical centres to repair and supply military equipment.

Based on the Taliban’s claims, these centres are responsible for maintaining and rebuilding light and heavy weapons, armoured vehicles, and certain defence systems.

It was also stated that several weapons and ammunition production facilities have been launched in different parts of Afghanistan in order to meet the group’s military needs domestically.

However, the report released by the Taliban has faced scepticism. It is said that the report includes images generated by artificial intelligence as well as photographs of military factories from other countries.

Earlier, Forbes magazine had also reported that the Taliban used simple short-range drones during border clashes with Pakistan and that these attacks were coordinated with Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan.
