Reported Understanding Between Two Marshals on the Destruction of the Taliban.
Discussions in certain political circles suggest that General Asim Munir, the Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan, has held contacts with Marshal Abdul Rashid Dostum and requested his cooperation in confronting the Taliban.
Sources say that during these talks, Munir reportedly promised “all forms of support” and asked the Marshal to play an active role in the process of “weakening and eliminating the Taliban.”
According to these circles, Marshal Dostum also put forward certain conditions for cooperation, and the two sides are said to have reached a general understanding on efforts aimed at weakening and destroying the Taliban.
It is claimed that Pakistan’s ongoing air operations against Taliban positions are intended to pave the way for the possible return and entry of Marshal Dostum.
At the same time, reports indicate that Marshal Dostum has begun preparations for potential ground operations in parts of Afghanistan and is coordinating his military forces both inside and outside the country.
Alongside these developments, the name of Mohammad Mohaqiq has also been mentioned as part of a possible alliance.
Considered a close associate and political ally of Marshal Dostum, he wrote on his Facebook page one day earlier (Thursday, 12 March 2026) that the Taliban had recently placed him “under focus” and were spreading “false propaganda” against him.
Mohaqiq described the Taliban’s actions as a sign of the group’s “concern” over new political movements, stating: “With the help of God and the dear nation, we are approaching the (the arena).”
His reference to “approaching the arena” has further intensified speculation about the possible reality of such an alliance.
Simultaneously, reports have emerged suggesting that Pakistan has attempted to persuade certain Arab countries to reduce their support for the Taliban.
In this context, separate reports have also circulated regarding the possible closure of the Taliban’s political office in Qatar, developments that are being interpreted by some observers as an indication of the expanding scope of an anti-Taliban coalition and the potential decline of the group’s political standing.
Gulbuddin Hekmatyar has likewise been mentioned as one of the figures possibly involved in this coalition.
Sources say that, due to his connections with populations in southern provinces, Hekmatyar has assumed responsibility for coordinating activities in several Pashtun-majority areas.
However, no specific timeline has been announced for the start of any potential ground operations.
Marshal Dostum had earlier promised that he would enter Afghanistan “soon.”
This comes as Pakistan’s air operations aimed at weakening Taliban forces reportedly continue.
In the latest reported incident, Pakistani strikes targeted several Taliban military centres on the morning of Friday, 13 March 2026, in Kabul, Kandahar, and Paktia, causing heavy casualties according to eyewitness accounts.
