General Mobeen: Taliban Leaders Are Confronting Pakistan — So Why Am I Still in Prison?

General Mobeen, a former Taliban commander who is currently detained at Pul-e-Charkhi Prison in Kabul, has stated that he does not know the reason for his arrest, describing his remarks as “sharper and more shocking.” He said: “I do not know for what crime I am in prison.”
He further added that if his detention was related to his criticism and strong statements against Pakistan and its army, then — now that, according to him, Taliban leaders are themselves engaged in disputes with Pakistan — the continuation of his imprisonment remains unclear to him.

Earlier, Sirajuddin Haqqani, the Taliban’s Interior Minister, had described General Mobeen as a “media hero” of the movement and expressed regret over his imprisonment.
However, Taliban authorities have so far issued no official explanation regarding the reasons for the detention of the former commander.
