A Horrific Account of the “Night of Death” at Camp Omid; Allegations of Taliban Abuse and Dozens of Bodies Left Under Rubble.
Reports from credible media outlets indicate a large-scale humanitarian tragedy at “Camp Omid,” where, according to local sources, Taliban-affiliated forces used civilians as human shields while simultaneously attempting to circulate alternative narratives of the incident through aligned media and online networks.
The camp’s capacity was reportedly around 2,000 beds, but approximately 1,200 people were present on the day of the incident, some of whom had been discharged prior to the attack.
Based on available figures, between 800 and 850 individuals were present at the time of the attack. Sources state that in the youth and pre-discharge section, around 90 to 100 people lost their lives, while nearly 100 others were killed in the main hangar section.
One eyewitness reported seeing at least 80 bodies on Tuesday morning being pulled from the rubble—bodies that remained trapped for hours under twisted metal and collapsed debris due to the absence of heavy equipment.
According to this source, the transfer of some victims began overnight, but the lack of cranes and necessary equipment delayed the retrieval process until morning; a delay that intensified fear and anger among survivors.
This event occurs amid recent reports of Pakistani airstrikes on multiple locations in Kabul, including the attack on a drug rehabilitation hospital that allegedly resulted in around 650 casualties, although Islamabad has rejected the claim and attributed the fire to Taliban forces.
