Local sources in Takhar province say a former Afghan National Army soldier, a resident of Yangi Qala district, committed suicide and cut off his penis after several failures to propose.
According to sources, the 35-year-old man, who had served in the ranks of the country’s security forces for years, had been unable to marry despite a good financial situation due to unemployment and people’s fear of contact with former soldiers.
Local families have refused to give him the girl.
After the last refusal, he committed suicide in a desperate and painful act and is now in a coma at the Takhar Provincial Hospital.
Those around him say he has been repeatedly threatened and lives in complete mental isolation in the years since the fall of the republic.
This incident is a bitter symbol of the suffering and forgetfulness of the forces who once gave their lives to defend the country and are left in silence today.
