The Afghan national wrestling team won one silver medal and five bronze medals in the international wrestling competition held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.
The competition began on Wednesday (25 May) with the participation of athletes from 14 Asian countries, in which 18 wrestlers from Afghanistan participated.
According to Sayed Mahmood Zia Dashti, head of the Kyrsh Federation:
Afghan national athletes performed brilliantly in the Kyrsh style and achieved an acceptable position with great effort against powerful Asian opponents.
Afghanistan also managed to win third place in the team category. A number of other Afghan athletes are scheduled to take the field in the “Alish” style today, Thursday. Officials hope that good results will be achieved in this stage as well.
