Afghan Journalists: Afghanistan’s Independent Media Needs Support from the American People.

At a meeting at the Hoover Institution, Afghan journalists and activists warned that media repression in Afghanistan has reached a worrying stage and that the support of the American people is needed to preserve freedom of expression.

They emphasized that after the Taliban’s return, more than 40 percent of media outlets have been closed and the majority of female journalists have been unemployed.

The speakers at the meeting, noting the vital role of media in exile, called for financial and moral support for Afghanistan’s independent press, which continues to tell the truth despite pressure and threats.
