Afghan worker dies in Tajik mines.

Six Afghan workers were killed in a deadly explosion at a coal mine in Tajikistan’s Sogd province.

The incident occurred on Sunday, 2 November 2025, in the Aini area and the victims were working inside the mine tunnel. The bodies of the workers have not been pulled out of the mine.

Five of the victims were from Daikundi province and one from Lal Wasr Jangal district of Ghor province.

According to workers, hundreds of Afghans are working in Tajik mines and face lack of safety and pressure from contractors to remain silent.

Many claim they face fines and deportation if they protest.

This is the second such incident this year; In May, eight Afghan workers were killed in another explosion in the same area.

Poverty and unemployment in Afghanistan have led many young people to migrate to neighboring countries for work and to be employed in high-risk jobs, including mining.
