Afghanistan and Uzbekistan opened a joint chamber of commerce in the city of Mazar-e-Sharif on Tuesday, Taliban-run media reported. The move is aimed at expanding trade and economic ties between the two countries.
A delegation of about 100 Uzbek businessmen attended the ceremony. Business officials from both sides described the chamber as a “key platform” for facilitating trade, joint investments and holding permanent product exhibitions.
The head of Uzbekistan’s exporters called for simplifying customs and visa procedures for traders. The Taliban also viewed the initiative as a step towards strengthening Mazar-e-Sharif’s commercial position and economic development in northern Afghanistan.
