Afghanistan’s passport at the bottom of the global rankings

Afghanistan’s passport at the bottom of the global rankings; Symbol of International Isolation and Legitimacy Crisis.

According to the latest ranking of the Passport Index by the prestigious institution “Henley & Partners” for 2025, the Afghan passport has once again been ranked last in the world; a situation that reflects the increasing isolation and sharp decline in the international credibility of the country.

In the report, which was released on Wednesday, July 23, the Singapore passport topped the list with visa-free travel to 193 countries, while Afghan citizens are only allowed to travel visa-free to less than 12 countries; countries that are mostly unknown, weak and lack extensive diplomatic relations.

The Henley Index measures the validity of passports based on the number of countries to which citizens can travel without a prior visa. Afghanistan’s low position on the list once again shows that the presence of the Taliban at the top of the list has not only faced a crisis in the country’s political legitimacy, but has also severely limited diplomatic relations and the rights of Afghan citizens globally.

This credit crunch continues as millions of Afghans face serious obstacles to leaving the country, with the world’s doors closing one after another.
