Afghan Evac chief: Afghans no longer allowed to work in US
The head of Afghan Evac has warned that thousands of Afghans in the US could lose their work permits and face deportation if Temporary Protected Status (TPS) ends.
“With the end of the TPS program, Afghans no longer have legal permission to work in the US and are at risk of deportation by immigration,” Sean Van Dyver, the organisation’s chief, wrote on his X page (formerly Twitter) on Monday.
The Temporary Protected Status program was one of the few legal options for Afghans to temporarily stay and work in the US after the fall of the previous Afghan government. Now, with the program’s end, concerns have grown sharply among the Afghan immigrant community.
Immigration experts also say that the failure to extend this status could seriously threaten the lives of thousands of Afghan refugees who entered the United States, especially after 2021.
