After 48 hours, the internet was restored and telecommunications networks were activated.
After almost 48 hours of widespread outages, telecommunications and internet networks in Afghanistan are gradually coming back online.
Many citizens reported that the operators “Roshan” and “Salam” reactivated calls and internet services on Wednesday evening, after the communication was interrupted.
Local sources in Kabul also say that the “Afghan Baseem” company has recently resumed its activities, while some other operators had previously returned to providing services.
However, the situation in the provinces is different. In Kandahar, local sources report that only the “Salam” network is available to the public, and other companies have not yet managed to provide service.
The situation in Uruzgan is also still critical: according to local sources, “Afghan Baseem” services have not yet been activated in the province, and people are still facing serious problems in making calls and accessing the internet.
At the national level, the reason for the communication outage has also been highlighted by the media. According to reports, the Taliban have stated that the main disruptions in the networks are due to the deterioration of old fiber optic cables that are now undergoing reconstruction.
Meanwhile, the media say that orders have also been issued to reduce the speed of mobile services (from 4G and 3G to lower generations) to reduce the pressure on the infrastructure.
Also in some districts, such as Hesarak in Nangarhar province, the Afghan Baseem company has reported that second and third generation internet services have been activated.
