Ahmad Massoud: The Taliban Have Launched a Project to Eliminate Politicians and Former Military Personnel.
Ahmad Massoud, leader of Afghanistan’s National Resistance Front, warned that the Taliban have launched a systematic project aimed at eliminating political figures and former members of the security forces.
He made the remarks during a memorial ceremony for General Akramuddin Sari, the former police commander of Takhar province, emphasizing the urgent need for unity among anti-Taliban forces.
Massoud described the killing of General Sari as a symbol of resistance and sacrifice for Afghanistan’s freedom and dignity, adding that targeted assassinations demonstrate the enemy’s fear of the country’s human capital and national capacity.
He said previous efforts to bring various anti-Taliban groups under a single umbrella had failed, but Sari’s assassination has now united them.
General Akramuddin Sari was assassinated in Tehran last Wednesday, and Mohammad Amin Almas, a former army battalion commander, was also killed in the same attack.
No group has claimed responsibility so far, though Taliban opponents accuse the group of carrying out the assassination.
Hossein Khosh-Eghbal, Tehran’s governor, said investigations are ongoing, but four days after the incident, no official findings have yet been released.
