Local sources in Kunduz province report that Asadullah Salem, the current governor of Aliabad district, has been treating residents of Cheeb-Guzar village inappropriately and insultingly.

According to sources, he has used derogatory language against locals, fueling widespread dissatisfaction and criticism.

Sources further report that the governor recently ordered the detention of Mawlawi Nordin, the village mosque’s preacher, for five days during which he was reportedly mistreated.

These actions have caused significant concern among residents.

Cheeb-Guzar’s population, predominantly Uzbek and non-Pashtun, has reportedly been subjected to pressure and intimidation by the governor.

Sources say he even referred to non-Pashtun residents as “Israelis” and is simultaneously attempting to enforce the forced relocation of Kuchi nomads into this Uzbek-majority area.

Additionally, some villagers’ lands have reportedly been seized by the governor.

Local sources claim that Asadullah Salem has no formal religious or academic background and previously worked as a horse trader during the republic era.

He was appointed governor of Aliabad after the Taliban came to power, and it is likely he had prior links with the Taliban.

Recent actions, including the detention and mistreatment of the mosque preacher, have further fueled concerns among locals about his abuse of authority and coercive rule.
