Attempted attack on a former commander of the National Movement in Sheberghan.
Local sources in Jawzjan province say that on Monday afternoon, October 20, 2025, unknown armed men attacked “Shir Koandaan”, a former commander of the National Islamic Movement Party of Afghanistan, in the city of Sheberghan.
According to a local source, “Shir Koandaan” was not injured in the incident, but one of his brothers who was accompanying him died.
The source added that “Shir Koandaan” was previously an active military figure in the ranks of the National Movement Party and a commander close to Marshal Abdul Rashid Dostum.
He had been living in Iran for some time after the fall of the previous government and had returned to Sheberghan in recent weeks.
