Badakhshan; Taliban impose village head with bloody repression of the people.
In the Yamgan district of Badakhshan, people’s protest against the imposition of a Taliban-backed village head turned violent.
Local sources say that Taliban forces shot and beat at least 22 residents of the village of Kawjo Khan on Saturday, August 16, and nine of them are reported to be in serious condition.
Local residents insist that the village head should be elected by popular vote and consensus, but the Taliban have imposed their preferred candidate.
According to the people, this incident once again shows that the Taliban cannot tolerate the slightest civil protest and are suppressing the will of the local community by force.
