According to sources, the dispute was between Tajik and Pashtun Taliban commanders over the management of the central hospital.
The Taliban recently transferred the hospital’s management from the Aga Khan Foundation to a Kandahar-based institution, which, according to sources, lacks the necessary technical and managerial capacity and cannot provide standard healthcare services.
Sources stated that the new management reduced doctors’ salaries, imposed strict restrictions on staff, and significantly lowered service quality.
In recent weeks, doctors and staff staged several strikes, with some Tajik Taliban commanders supporting the employees. These tensions reportedly led to today’s armed confrontation. The Taliban have not officially responded, and the situation at the hospital remains tense.
