A 60-year-old miner died after a coal mine collapsed in the upper Dara Souf district of Samangan province.
Local sources said the incident occurred on Monday evening, May 15, and the victim, Nematullah, was a resident of the lower Dara Souf district.
The Taliban also confirmed the incident. According to a spokesman for the Taliban’s security command in Samangan, the victim’s body has been handed over to his family.
Mining remains one of the most dangerous jobs in Afghanistan. Lack of safety equipment, unprincipled mining and inadequate supervision have repeatedly claimed the lives of workers.
