Taliban and Kuchis: Collaborating in the Repression and Killing of Hazaras?

Continuing the ethnic violence and discriminatory treatment of Hazaras, local sources in Maidan Wardak province have reported that armed Kuchis brutally shot dead a young Hazara named Mujtaba Naqvi.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, July 29, in the Niroo City area of Hesa Awal Behsud district.

According to sources, Mujtaba was shot while trying to prevent the nomads from entering his farmland. However, he was met with a deadly response from the gunmen.

Despite the passage of several hours after this crime, Taliban officials have not reacted. In recent years, tensions between nomads and villagers, especially in Hazara areas, have always been accompanied by the Taliban’s tacit support for the nomads.

In most cases, the Taliban have issued legal decisions in favor of the nomads, using military and political influence.

In a recent example, the group settled a case in favor of the nomads in Bamyan province and forcibly evicted 25 Hazara families from the village of “Rashk Pashta Gharghari”.

The murder of Mujtaba Naqvi is another symbol of structural injustice, ethnic discrimination, and the Taliban’s unwritten support for armed nomads; A trend that has deprived farmers and indigenous residents of the central regions of security and survival.
