Following the killing of Ali Khamenei, Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, during joint United States and Israeli attacks, a number of prominent figures from Afghanistan’s former government issued rare and explicit statements in response.

Abdul Rashid Dostum described the incident as a “martyrdom of oppression” and characterized it as a major loss for the Islamic world and regional political dynamics. Referring to Khamenei’s role over recent decades, he spoke of his influence in supporting the people of Afghanistan and strengthening Islamic solidarity.

Abdul Rab Rasul Sayyaf, in firm language, referred to Khamenei as a “steadfast leader against injustice” and described his death as an “honorable martyrdom.”

Mohammad Mohaqiq called the event an “irreparable loss” for Iran and the Islamic world, emphasizing that the resulting vacuum would not be easily filled.

At the same time, Hanif Atmar described the regional situation as “extraordinarily difficult and concerning,” warning that continued military actions could widen the crisis and again stressing the urgent need to return to diplomacy and respect for international law.

Meanwhile, Abdullah Abdullah described the killing of Iran’s leader and his associates as a “great and lasting loss in the historical memory of the Iranian nation.”

Collectively, these positions indicate that recent developments in Iran have had a broad impact among leaders of Afghanistan’s former republic, who, while expressing sympathy with the Iranian government and people, warned of deep consequences and the potential expansion of regional instability.
