in the past month Islamabad has deported more than 84,000 Afghans in less than a month, following its strict policies towards migrants. Pakistan’s deputy interior minister, Talal Chaudhry, said the deportation process was ongoing and thousands of migrants had been forced to leave Pakistan. The government has extended the deadline for undocumented migrants to leave the country until April 30, while the previous deadline was March 31, according to a Pakistani journalist. According to Pakistani officials, about 2.1 million Afghan refugees – mainly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa – are still living in Pakistan. The Pakistani government has cited increasing security threats as the main reason for the policy; But some human rights groups and migration activists have questioned the claims and warned of the humanitarian consequences of these mass deportations.
