Continuous Shifts: The Marginalization of Uzbeks in Taliban Power.

Qari Aminullah Tayeb, an Uzbek commander within the Taliban, was removed yesterday from his position as deputy governor of Badakhshan province and appointed as deputy of the Taliban’s Support Brigade in Takhar province.

He had been appointed deputy governor of Badakhshan around ten months ago, and this reassignment is the latest in a series of repeated transfers within the Taliban structure.

Tayeb, who holds the rank of Lieutenant General, previously served as deputy of the 313 Central Corps and then as deputy governor of Badakhshan.

Local sources say he was involved multiple times in suppressing public protests, with forces under his command used against demonstrators.

Some citizens and observers view Tayeb’s frequent reassignments as part of a systematic marginalization of Uzbek commanders within the Taliban, especially considering his prominent role in the northeastern campaigns and provincial takeovers, yet he has never been promoted beyond deputy positions and has been reassigned roughly every six months.
