According to local sources, Mawlawi Faiz, widely known as the “court cleric” and imam of the Grand Mosque of Taloqan, uses his Friday sermons to divert public attention from real crises in Takhar Province.

He frequently speaks about the Jeffrey Epstein case, yet has never addressed Taliban abuses, alleged rape cases, widely circulated scandalous videos, the closure of schools and universities, or the looting of public resources.

Experts say such populist and deceptive behavior undermines the credibility of the clergy and distances people from the urgent realities facing society.

Local sources further stress that Mawlawi Faiz has misused mosque revenues, even taking control of the mosque’s toilets and renting them for personal profit.

It is reported that nearly ten lakhs Afghanis have been collected from public money through this practice, with no transparency or accountability, and all funds allegedly spent at his personal discretion.

Residents and local shopkeepers say they have repeatedly requested basic public services and facilities for the mosque, but their demands have been ignored, while mosque income has become a source of personal corruption.

Experts warn that the continuation of this situation—where people rely solely on content-empty Friday sermons—leads to wasted time, declining religious and social awareness, and the normalization of corruption.

They emphasize that people must seek knowledge from diverse and independent sources and must not allow opportunistic clergy, through deception and financial abuse, to replace the country’s real and pressing issues.
