Direct Result of Restrictions on Women and Aid Cuts: Afghan Mothers Battle Hunger, Losing Their Children.

The World Food Programme (WFP) has warned that women in Afghanistan are facing severe malnutrition and, in some cases, are losing their children.

Jan Iliffe, Head of WFP’s Afghanistan office, said on Tuesday, October 11, 2025, that many families have been deprived of humanitarian assistance, and the nutrition situation, particularly for women and children, is alarming.

Iliffe emphasized that now is not the time to reduce aid; support must increase to fulfill the global community’s commitments to the Afghan people.

He warned that with the approach of winter, vulnerable families will require even more food assistance. WFP had previously reported that malnutrition levels in Afghanistan have risen sharply.

Since the Taliban takeover, some international organizations have reduced their humanitarian aid due to restrictions on women working, negatively affecting the livelihoods and nutrition of the Afghan population.
