EU Marks World Science Day by Highlighting Importance of Education in Afghanistan.
The Delegation of the European Union to Afghanistan, marking World Science Day, announced its continued support for Afghan students and teachers.
In a statement posted on the social media platform X on October 10, 2025, the EU mission emphasized the importance of education, science, and sustainable peace in Afghanistan. “Investing in science means investing in lasting peace, innovation, and a self-reliant future for all Afghans,” the statement said, adding that education remains a cornerstone of stability and development and a priority for EU engagement in Afghanistan.
This statement comes as Afghanistan’s education system faces severe challenges under Taliban rule. According to a joint UNESCO–UNICEF report, the education sector in Afghanistan is in crisis. Since regaining power, the Taliban have barred girls above sixth grade from attending school and closed universities to women. Reports also suggest that some public schools have been converted into religious training centers promoting extremism.
