Extortion charges at Taliban consulate in Mashhad; receiving millions of tomans from Afghan refugees

Reports indicate that the Taliban have been collecting money from Afghan refugees at their consulate in the Iranian city of Mashhad.

On Tuesday, “3 Saralan” in an interview with some media outlets, informed sources confirmed that Mawlawi Nusrat, the refugee affairs attaché at the Taliban consulate in Mashhad, is receiving 7 million tomans (about 5,600 Afghanis) from Afghan refugees in exchange for issuing exit permits without a queue.

According to the report, Nusrat does not receive these amounts through official channels, but through a network of commission agents who were appointed and introduced by him. This practice has raised many doubts about the transparency and legitimacy of the Taliban’s activities outside Afghanistan’s borders, especially in diplomatic centers.

Since the Taliban’s return to power, there have been numerous reports of similar extortions in various parts of Afghanistan. Now, it seems that these methods have also spread to the group’s foreign missions.

So far, no official response has been released from the authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran on this issue.
