Fear of execution; British couple recount harrowing experience in Taliban prison.

Barbie and Peter Reynolds, a British couple who were held by the Taliban for running a charity education program in Afghanistan, have said they were terrified of being executed while in custody.

Peter Reynolds, 80, said: “We started to think we would never be released or we would be in prison until we were executed.”

Barbie Reynolds, 76, added that the most difficult moment was seeing her husband, shackled, trying to get into a Taliban car.

The couple, along with their translator and an American friend, were arrested on February 1 and were released after eight months in prison and returned to the UK.

They said they were given no explanation for their detention and that their experience paints a picture of the difficult conditions for prisoners in Afghanistan.

The incident has received widespread international media coverage, highlighting concerns about the security situation for foreign nationals in Afghanistan.

Now, after their release, the Reynolds couple are recounting their harrowing experience and emphasizing the importance of supporting educational and charitable programs in high-risk areas.
