Fire in Mazar-e-Sharif and conflicting accounts.

A fire at a fresh fruit market at the Kifayat intersection in the fourth district of Mazar-e-Sharif has caused more than 550,000 Afghanis in financial losses to shopkeepers.

The Balkh Police Headquarters has described the cause of the incident as an “electrical fault” and said that there were no casualties. However, shopkeepers have a different account, claiming that the fire was caused by a lit cigarette butt thrown into fruit cartons.

These conflicting accounts have raised questions about the initial investigations and transparency of reporting by the responsible institutions.

According to shopkeepers, the lack of fire prevention systems and disregard for safety regulations are contributing to such incidents, and until this problem is resolved, similar losses will continue to occur.
