Local sources in Ghor Province say Faiz Mohammad Khan Morghabi, a former jihadi commander and senior member of Jamiat-e Islami, was seriously injured in an apparent assassination attempt near Firozkoh.

According to the sources, he was lured out of the city under the pretext of attending a gathering. The attackers reportedly forced him out of his vehicle, severely beat him with rifle butts, and cut off part of one of his ears before fleeing.

He was later transferred to Kabul for medical treatment.

Local sources suspect Taliban involvement, although the motive remains unclear. The Taliban have not commented on the incident.

The attack comes amid growing concerns over the security of former military and political figures across Afghanistan.
