Former Kabul University professor Mohammad Yunus Toghian Sakai passed away.

Dr. Mohammad Yunus Toghian Sakai, a former Kabul University professor and renowned researcher of Persian literature, passed away.

He died on Saturday, October 4, 2025, in the US state of California due to cancer at the age of 69.

Sakai taught the history of literature and epic literature at Kabul University for more than three decades, and during this time he wrote six textbooks for literature students.

His scholarly efforts earned him a special place among Afghanistan’s cultural and academic circles.

This well-known professor was born in Andarab, Baghlan Province, and identified himself as a Sunni Hazara.
