
Fresh Details on the Kabul Shahr-e-Naw Explosion: Initial Toll Reports 27 Dead and Injured.
Fresh details have emerged regarding the explosion that occurred on Monday, 19 January 2026, in the Shahr-e-Naw area of Kabul.
Preliminary figures indicate that at least seven people were killed and twenty others were injured in the incident.
Kabul Emergency Hospital announced that 20 injured individuals were transferred to the facility, seven of whom had already died upon arrival.
Hospital officials stated that the final casualty figures have not yet been confirmed, and the condition of several wounded individuals remains critical.
Dejan Panik, one of the hospital’s senior officials, said that four women and one child are among the injured.
He added that most of the victims suffered cuts and bruises, while some are currently under medical evaluation for possible surgery.
Eyewitnesses told media outlets that the injured were in serious condition, and several were transported to hospitals with the assistance of local residents.
It has also been reported that a Toyota Corolla vehicle was completely destroyed as a result of the explosion.
Abdul Mateen Qani, spokesperson for the Taliban’s Ministry of Interior, confirmed the explosion in Shahr-e-Naw and said the incident resulted in casualties, adding that further details would be released later.
Local sources reported that the explosion occurred at the “Noodle Afghan Restaurant,” a venue that primarily served foreign nationals, particularly Chinese citizens.
Meanwhile, Khalid Zadran, spokesperson for Kabul police, described the location as a hotel in Gul-Faroshi Alley and stated that investigations are ongoing. In contrast, Taliban-run National Radio and Television claimed that the blast was caused by a gas cylinder explosion.
