Global Reactions to US Attack on Iranian Nuclear Facilities

Following the US airstrike on Iranian nuclear sites, a wave of international reactions has been launched, especially in Europe, Asia and the Middle East. The European Union and a number of European countries have implicitly supported the attack, emphasizing the need to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons and return Tehran to the negotiating table, but have not officially condemned it.

Kaja Kalas, the EU’s foreign policy chief, has said that Iran should not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons, as this would pose a serious threat to global security.

In contrast, China and Russia have issued strong statements, calling the US attack a clear violation of the UN Charter and international law. Beijing has called the action a threat to regional stability and an escalation of tensions, and has called on the parties to return to a ceasefire and dialogue. Moscow has also warned that the attack could lead to a wider conflict in the Middle East.

The Taliban have condemned the attack, calling it a continuation of support for Israel and emphasizing the need to resolve the issue through diplomacy. At the same time, regional countries such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Pakistan have expressed their deep concern and called for restraint from the parties. Riyadh has called the violation of Iran’s sovereignty unacceptable, while Doha has emphasized the intensification of international efforts to find a political solution.

Pakistan has called the action contrary to international standards and warned that escalating tensions could have catastrophic consequences for the region and beyond.

Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai has also called the attack a violation of the principles of the UN Charter in a statement and emphasized the use of peaceful means to resolve Iran’s nuclear disputes.
