Hekmatyar: Authoritarian regimes have a short lifespan

Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, leader of the Hezb-e-Islami Afghanistan, has warned that tyranny, censorship, and suppression of freedoms shorten the lifespan of regimes.

On Sunday, July 28, he wrote in a message on the X network that a regime imposed on the people by force will eventually collapse.

Without naming the Taliban, Hekmatyar said: “Where neither human dignity nor the votes and rights of the respected people are protected, that regime is worthless to the nation.”

He emphasized that every free person in such circumstances tries to break the “cage of tyranny,” otherwise “he will truly be a slave.”

These statements come at a time when the Taliban, after taking control of the country, have imposed extensive restrictions on the freedoms and rights of citizens.
