Honoring the Scientific and Literary Status of Makhdum Qoli Faraghi in Mazar-e-Sharif

A ceremony hosted by the Balkh Provincial Information and Culture Department in Mazar-e-Sharif honored the scientific and literary status of Makhdum Qoli Faraghi, a famous Turkmen poet from the 12th century.

A number of government officials, the Consul General of the Republic of Turkmenistan, poets, writers, and cultural figures from Mazar-e-Sharif attended the conference.

The participants in the program, by delivering speeches, emphasized the importance of the works and cultural impact of this famous Turkmen poet, describing him as a distinguished and unparalleled figure in classical Turkmen literature; a poet who was able to portray lofty human, social, moral, and mystical concepts with his simple and popular language.

Makhdum Qoli Faraghi has played a worthy role not only in literature, but also in the mental and identity awakening of the Turkmen people. His poems are full of profound moral, religious, national and social themes that are still influential and popular among different segments of the Turkmen people today. By using the native language and simple but profound narratives, he revived and preserved Turkmen culture in the form of poetry.

This conference was an opportunity to review Faragi’s valuable works and take a fresh look at the legacy he has left for future generations; a legacy that continues to illuminate the path of literary lovers and cultural workers throughout the Turkmen-speaking world.
