Jawzjan’s “Tooti Maidan” gas project officially launched.
The Taliban’s Ministry of Mines and Petroleum announced that the Uzbek company “Prilcom” has started practical work on the “Tooti Maidan” gas exploration and extraction project in Jawzjan province.
The ceremony was held on Sunday, September 14, in the presence of Abdul Ghani Baradar, the Taliban’s Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, and Ismatullah Irgashev, Uzbekistan’s special representative for Afghanistan.
Abdul Ghani Baradar said at the ceremony that the “Tooti Maidan” project will largely meet Afghanistan’s domestic gas needs and reduce its dependence on gas and electricity imports.
He also claimed that with the completion of the project, the ground will be prepared for Afghanistan’s gas exports to neighboring countries, thereby strengthening the country’s economy.
According to the contract signed on October 7, 2024, the solar year, Prilcom is committed to exploring and extracting gas reserves for a period of ten years and will invest $100 million in the first year and about $1 billion in the project over the next ten years.
The Taliban Ministry of Mines and Petroleum has announced that 100 megawatts of electricity will also be generated from the extracted gas in the first two years.
