Juma Khan Fateh Calls for Badakhshan’s Right to Decide Its Future.
Dissident Taliban commander Juma Khan Fateh said in a statement posted on X that the people of Badakhshan should decide how their land, natural resources, and education system are managed.
He criticized what he called the Taliban leadership’s excessive centralization and the influence of the “Kandahar circle,” arguing they have no legitimate authority over Badakhshan’s future or wealth. His remarks come amid increasing tensions between local Taliban commanders and the group’s leadership. Taliban authorities have not publicly responded.
