Kabul Residents Speak of Risk of Beating and Extortion During Mobile Phone Checks.
Some residents of Kabul say that Taliban forces in certain parts of the city have been checking people’s mobile phones during movement and transit.
According to them, these actions are carried out without any clear justification, causing concern and discomfort among citizens.
Locals claim that during phone inspections, Taliban personnel ask phone owners to call certain saved numbers to verify the identity of the contacts. Citizens regard this as direct interference in personal privacy.
Additionally, several residents say that Taliban forces also examine photos and personal content stored on citizens’ phones. They add that this practice has increased fear and anxiety among the population.
Many people express concern about potential abuse, including beatings, violent behavior, or extortion during these inspections.
They emphasize that such actions violate citizens’ privacy and seriously undermine public trust.
