Marie Kabir-Siraj Bishopping Named Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Afghanistan.

 President Donald Trump has named Marie Kabir-Siraj Bishopping, 33, of Afghan descent, as the deputy assistant secretary of state for Afghanistan.

 In this role, Bishopping will be responsible for directing U.S. policy toward Afghanistan within the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs.

 This is Trump’s first political appointment in the Afghanistan field.

Bishopping, who was born and raised in California and is a descendant of the Afghan royal family, began her work in the role about two weeks ago.

 She holds a juris doctorate from the University of Virginia School of Law and a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Los Angeles.

 Bishopping is fluent in Persian and German. Thomas West and Reina Amiri previously served as U.S. special representatives for Afghanistan
