Mohsen Rezai Brings Taekwondo Silver to Afghanistan Despite Illness.

Mohsen Rezai, the captain of Afghanistan’s national taekwondo team, won a silver medal at the Islamic Solidarity Games despite being ill. He was defeated 2-1 by Iranian taekwondo athlete Ali-Asghar Moradian in the final match.

The final took place on Sunday evening, November 16, 2025, in the under-60 kg category in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Rezai’s silver medal is the first-ever silver for Afghanistan in the history of the Islamic Solidarity Games. Despite his illness and poor physical condition during the competition, he delivered an impressive performance.

To reach the final, Rezai defeated competitors from Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, and Azerbaijan. Earlier, Yousuf Jahangir, another Afghan athlete in Muay Thai, made history by winning a gold medal in the same games, bringing further pride to the country’s sports achievements.
