Moscow Format Meeting; Concerns Over Foreign Bases and Terrorist Presence in Afghanistan.

Moscow hosted two important meetings on Afghanistan this week; including a quadrilateral meeting attended by Iran, Russia, China, and Pakistan, and a larger Moscow Format meeting with the participation of more than 10 regional countries and Taliban representatives.

In these meetings, regional countries once again opposed any establishment of foreign military bases on Afghan soil and emphasized respect for the country’s sovereignty.

News sources say the main concern is the possible return of US forces to Bagram Air Base.

In these meetings, Pakistani and Iranian representatives emphasized the fight against terrorism and regional cooperation, warning that Afghan soil has continued to become a haven for foreign terrorist groups.

Security experts have stated that the Taliban, by directly or indirectly supporting groups such as ISIS-Khorasan and other foreign terrorists, threaten the stability of Afghanistan and the security of neighboring countries.

Pakistan’s special representative for Afghanistan, Mohammad Sadiq, called the widespread presence of these groups in Afghanistan an “urgent threat” and called for collective regional action to counter it.

The participants in the Moscow Format meeting, issuing a joint statement, considered terrorism a serious threat to Afghanistan, the region and the world and called on the Taliban to take effective measures to prevent the use of Afghan soil against neighboring countries and beyond.
