Local sources say Mullah Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid, the Taliban’s Acting Minister of Defense, has arrived in Badakhshan Province to hold talks with Juma Khan Fateh, a dissatisfied Taliban commander.
According to the sources, a helicopter carrying Mullah Yaqoob and a Taliban delegation landed in the province moments ago.
His visit comes amid escalating tensions between Fateh and Taliban officials in Badakhshan, indicating that the situation may be more serious than previously reported.
Sources say that, in addition to Fateh’s forces, some local residents have also been armed and placed on standby.
Details about the planned meeting between Mullah Yaqoob and Fateh, including the time and location of the talks, remain unclear. The Taliban has not yet issued an official statement regarding the purpose of the visit or the possible agenda of the negotiations.
