Murder and Terror in Takhar: Killer Released After Death of a Victim.
Last week, in the market of Chah-Ab District, Takhar Province, Nisar Muqaddas, a member of the Taliban battalion and nephew of Mullah Ghulam, the battalion commander in Farkhar, opened fire on civilians, injuring five people, including a child. The attack was so severe that one of the wounded died last night in a Kabul hospital.
Despite this apparent crime, Nisar Muqaddas was released from Taliban detention only a few days after the shooting. His rapid release and the absence of legal accountability have sparked outrage and shock among local residents and human rights observers, highlighting the Taliban’s apparent immunity for members against any legal consequences.
Local residents state that this behavior reflects the organized militarization and injustice in Taliban-controlled areas, where members can commit any crime or act of violence without being held accountable, and justice for victims is effectively denied. This situation has created waves of fear and insecurity among the residents of Farkhar and neighboring districts.
