Mysterious Death of Soldier: Honor Killing or Body Set on Fire by Taliban?

Following reports of the killing of a former member of Afghanistan’s security forces, Taliban officials in Ghazni have offered a new account of the incident.

Local sources report that a young man named Mohammad Anwar, originally from Andar district and currently residing in Kabul, was killed in the village of Teh-Sang in Deh Yak district, and his body was mysteriously set on fire.

The office of the Taliban governor in Ghazni confirmed the incident, stating that a girl allegedly involved in an “improper relationship” with the victim has been detained as the main suspect.

She and her family members are reportedly under investigation by security authorities. Taliban officials have cited “honor-related issues” as the motive for the killing, but have not provided clear details about how the incident occurred or the precise reasons behind it.

Meanwhile, local reports indicate that Mohammad Anwar was a former member of the national police and had been missing for several days.

According to sources, his body was discovered in a canal on Thursday evening, eight days after his disappearance, showing clear signs of violent killing. Some local sources suggest that the young man may have been killed by the Taliban and his body subsequently set on fire.
