Mysterious murder of four members of a family in Herat; a new wave of insecurity in western Afghanistan
Following the increasing trend of criminal acts in Afghanistan, local sources in Herat province report the horrific murder of four members of a family in the Guzara district of the province.
The incident took place last night, Monday, July 29, in one of the areas of Guzara district. According to sources, the victims include three women and a man who were shot and killed by unknown gunmen.
As of the time of publication of this report, no individual or group has claimed responsibility for the attack and the motive for the murder is also unknown. Taliban officials have not yet commented on the matter.
The increase in mysterious killings, armed robberies, and kidnappings, especially in the northern and western provinces of the country, has heightened citizens’ concerns about the security situation.
In recent days, reports have also been published of the murder of a man who had recently returned from Iran in Takhar province and the murder of a young student in Herat city.
The continuation of these incidents is occurring in a situation where the Taliban group, despite claiming to provide security, has failed to prevent the spread of organized crime and targeted violence. Security analysts believe that the lack of independent judicial and legal institutions has increased the impunity of criminals and the repetition of such tragedies.
