Pakistan Army: Taliban have been involved in recent attacks in Pakistan.
As tensions between the Taliban and Pakistan continue to escalate, Pakistan Army Director General Ahmad Sharif Chaudhry said Islamabad does not care about the Taliban’s conditions for security and political cooperation.
He stressed that Pakistan is focused only on the complete destruction of terrorism and that its national security depends on the strength of the armed forces, not on the promises of the Taliban.
Chaudhry said Pakistan’s position was clearly stated at the recent Istanbul meeting and no talks would be held with terrorist groups.
He also pointed to the link between drug trafficking networks and terrorist groups, saying militants earn huge income from opium cultivation, between 1.8 and 2.5 million rupees per hectare.
He said the presence and influence of Afghan warlords and smugglers in the political structure of Afghanistan is a serious threat to regional stability.
Chaudhry added that Pakistan has documents showing that the Taliban were involved in some terrorist attacks inside Pakistani territory.
The comments come as relations between the two sides have plummeted in recent weeks due to escalating border attacks and security disputes.
