Pakistan Can Arrest Hibatullah Like the U.S., Warns Jan Achakzai.
Jan Achakzai, former Information Minister of Balochistan Province in Pakistan, stated that Islamabad has the capability to arrest Hibatullah Akhundzada, the Taliban leader, from his hideout, just as the United States can act against certain foreign leaders.
He made the remarks on Sunday, January 4, 2026, in a post on the social media platform X.
Achakzai added that Hibatullah must cease sending suicide bombers into Pakistan.
According to him, the leader’s location is well known to Pakistani authorities, even if U.S. intelligence may not be aware of it.
He also stressed that the realization of the “Greater Pashtunistan” concept through the proxy Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) against a nuclear power is impossible.
Meanwhile, political analysts argue that Taliban support for groups such as the TTP has increasingly isolated Afghanistan and pushed regional relations toward tension and confrontation.
They assert that the continuation of this situation imposes heavy costs on the Afghan population, and historical experience shows that the Taliban lack both the capacity to govern effectively and the will to achieve sustainable peace.
