Pakistanis’ online campaign against the Taliban with the hashtag “Namak Haram”
Amid rising tensions and border clashes between the Afghan Taliban and the Pakistani army, Pakistani users have launched a campaign on social media in support of their country’s army.
In this campaign, many users, activists and media figures have accused the Afghan Taliban of disloyalty and ingratitude using the hashtag “Namak Haram”.
This hashtag has been shared thousands of times on platforms such as X, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and TikTok in the past two weeks.
At the same time, Pakistani singer Babar Khan Khattak released a song titled “Namak Haram” on YouTube on October 15, which quickly went viral on social media.
The song was released five days after Taliban forces attacked Pakistani border posts.
The song’s video features images of Taliban leaders, including Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Taliban’s foreign minister, and its theme refers to “forgetting Pakistan’s past aid to the Taliban.”
Similar campaigns in recent weeks are seen as a reflection of the escalating political and military tensions between the two countries following recent border clashes.
