Power Alignments in Muscat; Russia Warns, China Stands with Iran.
Russia has publicly welcomed the start of negotiations between Iran and the United States in the Sultanate of Oman, while warning about the consequences of a failure of the talks and calling for an immediate reduction in tensions.
Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin’s spokesperson, said on Friday, February 6, 2026, that Moscow hopes the negotiations will yield results and prevent further escalation of the regional crisis.
He emphasized that Russia expects “restraint” from all parties, a phrase observers interpret as a direct reference to the risk of conflict.
At the same time, China has taken a more explicit stance alongside Tehran, declaring its support for Iran in defending its interests and sovereignty.
China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that Beijing opposes what it calls “unilateral coercion” and supports Iran in safeguarding its security, national dignity, and legitimate rights, implicitly targeting U.S. pressure policies and sanctions.
These positions are being expressed as negotiations between Iran and the United States continue in Muscat, with their future marked by serious uncertainty.
In this context, Miao Deyu, China’s Vice Foreign Minister, met in Beijing with Kazem Gharibabadi, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister, and senior Chinese officials have previously reiterated support for Iran’s right to the peaceful use of nuclear energy and opposition to military threats and sanctions.
This signals the formation of a clear alignment of powers ahead of sensitive diplomatic decisions.
