The Kremlin has announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump will meet tomorrow in Anchorage, Alaska.

According to Yuri Ushakov, the Kremlin’s foreign policy adviser, the meeting will begin at 10:00 local time and will initially be face-to-face and then continue with delegations from both countries. A working breakfast will be held at the end.

According to Ushakov, the main focus of the meeting will be the Ukrainian crisis, but international security issues, economic cooperation and regional issues will also be discussed. After the meeting, the two leaders will announce the results of the meeting in a joint press conference.

The meeting comes a day after the US temporarily lifted some of the sanctions on Russia to allow for communications related to the meeting. The US Treasury Department said the waivers were similar to those previously granted for high-level diplomatic travel.

Also, ahead of the summit, Russia and Ukraine exchanged 84 prisoners each, brokered by the United Arab Emirates.

Moscow said the freed Russian soldiers would be transferred to Defense Ministry medical facilities for treatment and rehabilitation. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the freed soldiers included both military personnel and civilians, many of whom needed urgent medical care.
