
Regional experts in Moscow: Afghanistan’s political situation is worrying.
A number of Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) officials and experts have warned at a meeting in Moscow that the current political situation in Afghanistan could become a serious threat to regional stability and security.
The meeting was held on Sunday, October 26, 2025, by the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences under the title “Internal political situation in Afghanistan and its impact on the security of the countries of the region”.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Russian Foreign Ministry and researchers from Central Asian countries, Iran and Pakistan.
They discussed developments in Afghanistan, the Taliban’s ethnic policies, the spread of terrorism and the impact of the Afghan crisis on regional security.
In his speech, Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Secretary General Emangali Tasmagambitov said constructive dialogue between countries in the region is essential to better understand the situation in Afghanistan and find practical solutions.
He stressed that from 2023, the organization will begin special expert dialogues on Afghanistan and consider it one of its top priorities.
